I only have 50km to do today so it is going to be and easy one. I manage to do most of it by 9am and after calling Maggie, my couchsurfing host for tonight, I realize that I have 5 hours before she gets home and only about 20km to do. Damn it. I do not feel like heading to Yokohama near by. The busyness of Tokyo has drained me out. Too much city and you want to be lost in endless fields, too much countryside and you can't wait for the next city. Never satisfied.
Relax
I decide to get lost a bit. I take a random road and look for a park. The streets of the suburbs are quiet. People walk slowly. The sun hits just right. Perfect temperature. I eat a snack and get a bit drowsy....so I take a nap on some bench.
Not an eventful day for sure. Although, keeping with daily tradition, something else broke today. One of my back panniers (bags). You see, every day, or just about, something I own either falls apart or gets lost. Here are just some of the things that broke/left while here in Japan:
My handlebar bag's buttons (will not close anymore, must tie big chord around it) (lost chord)
Helmet cam's mount nowhere to be found
Back bike rack detached
Pump broke
Water bottle holder snapped
Cell phone mount busted
Light in the front gets stuck on flicker
Tent pole warped
Left 2 tent pikes back somewhere in Hokkaido
Solar charger chord barely functions
Solar chargers are pieces of crap
Sun glasses (fell apart after a day)
Pants' belt string got stuck inside and so became unusable (pulled it out and used it as handlebar bag's replacement for buttons....lost that after a day)
And even the little chord that holds my raincoat's zipper has unraveled, untied itself and broken off.....
So, all in all, I have become quite handy and inventive with the few things I have available. At the same time however, I think that I will reach Cape Sata with nothing but my back tire if this trend keeps up. Love it how companies make total crap products nowadays but charge high prices still. I'll tell you one thing though.....when I get back home I am taking a day off of work just to write bad reviews for all this junk. Anyways, enough complaining.
I end up eating at a Yakitori restaurant. You grill the meat on a grill that is in your table. Delicious as usual.
Maggie's Place
I reach Chigasaki and meet Maggie. She has lived in Japan for 7 years. Can't blame her. This place is pretty sweet.
She goes out for a run and I crash on her carpet. There is always nap time in my book.
We go out for drinks and have a good time with her friends. Another fun night. Another night of little rest lots of fun.
....Tomorrow, the Japanese Alps, part 2.
