Next we go to a gorgeous Japanese garden I always loved these and often have gone to a local garden near my house called Morikami. This is the real deal. As real as it gets. Middle of Japan, in the country's cultural capital. Sweet.
Finally we go a bit down the city and see a temple holding hundreds of statues of deities and Buddha. This is I think the coolest thing I have seen in Japan yet......unfortunately, no pictures allowed, so you'll just have to imagine it.
Someone Like Us
As we head home, we are sitting at a Starbucks when we notice a fellow bike tourer. His overloaded bike sticks out like a sore thumb among the normal looking locals. We chat with him and he tells us he just started his journey. A highschool graduate from Ibaraki, he says he is going to circumvent Japan! Up and then back down. Insane. It is getting freezing cold in the deep north. He must either be really brave....or just plain stupid to go to Hokkaido when it's coldest.
Me and Yui say goodbye to our friend the cyclist as we reminisce of our own adventures on our bikes. We go home soon after as we are both tired.
On my Own for a Bit
Yui goes to class and I wander around the neighborhood. I stumble upon a temple. City of temples indeed....there's one on every corner. The empty temple is only lit up slightly by Japanese-style lanters. The aura of the place is as peaceful and magical as it is possible.
Yui returns and we chill at home. Good sightseeing day.
